  • Wonder Week For Bishop As They Climb To Second

    Sun 20 Mar 2016 DWilliams

It was an outstanding week for Bishop Child''s F.C. as they won back to back games to go second in the East Cardiff league.

It continues a run of six straight games without defeat and keeps the pressure firmly on Oakfield at the top of the division.

A well organised Pen Y Bryn were the first to fall on Wednesday where an inspired performance from captain Finley  led a rusty Bishop Child's to a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Illani in midfield proved pivotal in an outstanding second half display and a great debut performance from the powerhouse Luca left it's mark on a hard working Pen Y Bryn side.

The following evening the team faced a St Mellons side who were out for a victory to keep their championship hopes alive. With on form striker Corey being simply sublime, scoring goals in each half, and with Aymen and Luca causing carnage in midfield and Finley providing solid defensive cover, Bishop raced into a 4-1 lead deep into the second half.

But a relaxed Bishop Child's allowed the hosts back into the game, and with the score at 4-3, captain Finley calmly guided the team to yet another away victory.

  • Second Half Blitz Secures Second Victory In Succession

    Sun 07 Feb 2016 D Williams

Three goals in 3 minutes and a last minute own goal secured a second victory of the season for the fired up home side.

Once again, an aggressive display saw a hungry Bishop Child's team take the game to a talented Meadowlane. Captain Finley once again took no prisoners and Aymen, who seemingly powered by batteries, owned the entire field. Their work rate enabled the home side to take an early lead though the visitors quickly hit back with a stylish goal of their own. In heavy conditions, both teams tried to play a passing game and shortly before half time the score became 2-2. It was at this point Bishop Child's were caught napping in defence and two late first half goals were conceded.

With the score at 2-4, changes were made at half time. Luca and Jayce were introduced and from the kick off it was clear that Bishop Child's wanted to attack. Two Messi style runs from substitute Luca provided him with two early second half goals to bring the scores level. It wasn't long before Corey made it 5-4 with his seventh goal of the season.

Meadowlane however remained classy and produced a stunning stunning goal out of nothing to bring an open game to five goals each. With the game heading for a draw, a hopeful cross was sent into the Meadowlane penalty area. In an effort to clear the ball, an unfortunate Meadowlane defender guided the ball past his own goalkeeper gifting Bishop a narrow lead.

With thy time running out, Meadowlane's impressive striker floated a shot towards Cameron's goal. The ball dipped viciously and hit the crossbar, rebounding into the grateful hands of the Bishop goalkeeper. The clearance brought about the final whistle and and an end to a truly entertaining game of football.

  • Bishop Victory Boosts Confidence

    Fri 15 Jan 2016 DWilliams

After a long break due to Christmas and some of the worst weather conditions seen in a long time, the football season finally got back underway yesterday providing Bishop Childs with their first win of the campaign.

On a muddy field, the call was for a more aggressive style of play - and the team did not disappoint. Captain Finley lead from the front with some very strong challenges that rattled a skilful Greenway side. Aymen was also crucial in the early stages with some powerful runs out of defence on a pitch that would have challenged most rugby teams.

It wasn't long before the first goal came and after that the confidence grew. A wonder strike from Greenway made the score 1-1 but it was all Bishop Childs after that with a combination of clean, heavy challenges and accurate passing provided the ever accurate Corey with some opportunities that he did not need a second invite to take. Bishop Childs went into half time with a 4-1 lead.

Jayce, having had his best game in a Bishop Childs shirt, was replaced by Tom and star keeper Cameron was replaced by Ethan in goal.

Greenway came out playing in the second half and some impressive passing soon made the score 4-2 and Bishop Childs sustained their first real period of pressure. However some strong challenges by Tom, Finley and man of the match Aymen combined with the passing flair of Illani and Corey to ensure two further goals in the second half. A very impressive performance by the Greenway goalkeeper prevented the score from being more.

A spirited second half performance by Greenway provided the crowd with an exciting spectacle but in the end the half time deficit was too much to make up. The final score in the mud was 6-3 to Bishop Childs.

  • Keeper Cameron Shines On Match Day 1

    Fri 27 Nov 2015 D Williams

Bishop Childs FC travelled to Rumney yesterday and despite a 5-2 defeat, left in very good spirits. The first half saw a spirited performance and an outstanding long range goal from Corey. Unfortunately some misunderstanding in defence allowed Rumney to open up a 4-1 lead at the break. The second half started brightly and once again a fantastic strike from Corey found the bottom corner of the Rumney net. This instigated an exciting end to the game and although Rumney scored once more, man of the match Cameron produced a machine like performance to keep the second half at 1-1. A fantastic first match with a score line that didn't reflect the performance. We're now looking forward to next Thursday when we will be travelling to Willowbrook.
