No Cup Upsets But Scares -A -Plenty For Cardiff's Big Guns

Bishop Childs reached the quarter final of this years Bryn Hafod Cup in what was yet another excellent display by the team.

The day was summed up by a gutsy performance by captain Fin as he led the way with an injury to his right knee. Few teams will want to face him again, especially when both his legs are working!

The tournament begun with a rather flat 0-0 draw against Coryton. Both teams struggled to acclimatise to the small pitch and goals and despite some strong running from Fin and Aymen, few chances were created.

The second game against a strong St Phillip Evans side was far more open and thanks to an inspired display from Tom in defence, Bishop Child's safely completed their first victory. But this came at a cost. Injuries to Finley and a rejuvenated Cameron meant that the final game against the current Cathederal School champions, Rhiwbina, would be tough. Bishop had not read the script! At half time they led 1-0 thanks to a trademark Aymen goal and some great defending again by Tom. The second half was an onslaught from a very strong Rhiwbina side and despite some great defending, they raced to a 2 - 1 lead. Two more sloppy goals were conceded to give the North Cardiff team a far too respectable 4-1 victory. this meant a tough quarter final match against a very strong Coed Y Gof team. The Fairwater team were unbeaten and unchallenged- until now. Thanks to some heroic defence by Fin, Tom and Ethan, the game entered injury time at 0-0 with the opposition really nervous. But a mistake in defence allowed them to win a penalty and cruelly end Bishop Child's tournament hopes. This was a magnificent display by the boys and once again proves why they are flying high in the Eastern League.
