On a beautiful but cold early Summers afternoon Bishop Child's kicked off their first home game on their new pitch. The opponents were a well organised Oakfield team but once again there was a familiar outcome to the match.
The first half was a demonstration of how far Bishop Child's passing game has come. Great movement from Aymen, Finley, Luca and Corey set up a gaggle of chances with much of the first half spent camped in and around the Willowbrook penalty area. The cross bar and an outstanding goalkeeping performance allowed the score to stay at 0-0. Some heavy challenges from Luca rocked the Willowbrook attack as they resorted to playing very deeply to stop the constant attacking flow.
Moments before half time Corey found himself in some space and fired a stinging shot towards goal that was exceptionally kept out by the diving goalie only for the ever-sharp striker to slot in the rebound. Willowbrook's first attack came in the dying seconds of the first half with the previously redundant Cameron producing a good save to keep the score at 1-0.
The second half started with a similar attacking theme though Willowbrook had clearly upped their game. Defenders Tom and Elliot were far busier and captain Finley spent much of the second half tracking back. Corey and Aymen had futher chances to score with the post and goalie once again stopping the score from increasing.
The game ended with a 1-0 win for the home team and as the title challenge continues, home support will become vital.
Everyone is welcome to come to watch the games and provide as much support as possible.
