PC Rees visited us this week to talk to us about sinister substances!

Weather emersion! We wanted to experience all different types of weather are coming up with the question “what is the difference between weather and climate?” during our knowledge harvest this term.

Our helpwr heddiw sessions on body parts led nicely into some classic Welsh songs in preparation for our Welsh Wednesday celebration.

Outdoor learning! We completed a scavenger hunt around our school to find out what types of plant life we have.

We’ve been enjoying some outdoor reading during snack time this week. :)

We ventured on a local walk to find out what animals live in the habitats around us!

This half term we are learning about post-war Wales. We will be researching, discussing and answering the question "Why do people hold different views about the modernisation of an area?" Cardiff Castle Trip Letter 22.03.23

World book day Giglets afternoon! We spent the afternoon creating book reviews for our chosen books to share as a class. In addition we chose some of our favourite Giglets books from this year to revisit and added some new ‘just for fun’ books to read and listen to.

Eisteddfod pride! After months of building up the confidence to play in front of a group of peers Hannah recently mustered up the courage to play in front of the whole class. As confidence developed (and after some serious hard work, practise and dedication) we then had the opportunity to watch her perform Calon Lan to the entire school during the Eisteddfod! Da iawn Hannah!

Barry War Museum Tour. We visited a 1940 kitchen and home area, saw a real life Anderson shelter and took a trip into the trenches!

We took a trip BACK to 1940 and interviewed the home guard about his day to day life.

This weeks P.E warm up really got our hearts pumping!

In multimedia we’ve been making connections between the story of John the Baptist and Jesus feed the 5000

Diolch Quade for your presentation on items brought in surrounding our WW2 topic.

We have been using Freeform to digitalise examples of our work from this term. We’ve then been making design choices to present these clearly with detailed explanations of our choices.

Cwtch pedwar feeling united after a busy day of collaborating!

This week we creating a diamond 9 to discuss the teaching of Guru Nanak. Through comprehension activities and research we worked together to strengthen our understanding of these messages.

We’ve begun report writing through our RVE lessons. We’ve been writing short and snappy introductions to retell events that took place during Jesus’ life.

Expanding our sentences patterns in French with the introduction of adjectives!

This weeks French lessons took a very passionate turn while singing about shirts and socks. Smiles all around and lots of new vocabulary learnt!

We’ve been researching a range of topics this week to build on our knowledge of World War 2. This has helped us look back to our big question. ‘What can we learn about resilience from the war time generation?’

App of the week! We’ve been using Freeform to help us record our learning experience while developing our multimedia skills.

In Welsh this week we’re building upto creating our own comics full of the new vocabulary and phrases we have learnt. We will be combining our Welsh and multimedia skills to create reading resources for the younger children in the school.

In RVE we have been looking at the life of Jesus. This week we have brought in our IT skills to begin our multimedia presentations on what we know now. We have also carried out additional research online and used our class bibles to gather more information. We look forward to sharing these with you as they build up.

In maths this week we’ve been looking at coordinated and their importance in WW2. We have worked together to provide specific coordinates for R.A.F based across South Wales that were relied upon in WW2. We set challenges against the clock to experience the pressure of giving specific directions under the threat of attack.

To kickstart our World War Two topic this half term, we have been reading 'The Valley of Lost Secrets' by Lesley Parr. We have begun following the journey of Jimmy and Ronnie, two evacuees who have moved to the Welsh valleys from London. We are excited to see where the story takes us.

We’ve been doing lots of work on syllables this term to help with our build up to poetry. Now we’re counting them in everything we say.

Olivia brought in a genuine gas mark from WW2 that was specifically made for children. We are all so excited to see the real thing.

Tobi and Olivia brought in some great WW2 memorabilia to share with the class. They spoke extremely well presenting their stories to the class.

We have been using our VIPERS skills to help us answer questions on our class book. Our discussions helped us work collaboratively to share our thoughts.

Evacuation Rotation!

PS3 had a mixing day to introduce our new topic all about World War 2. In Miss Gwilym’s classroom, we learnt about evacuation how it impacted the lives of children. In Miss Ramsay’s classroom, we learnt about rationing and how much food people were allowed to have during the war. In Mr McCarthy’s classroom, we made the classroom a blackout, to experience how people would have felt during the war.

Homework for this term.

In numeracy we’ve been using our knowledge of multiples to solve division problems.

Keavy and Olivia did a fantastic job reminding us how we can use our knowledge of place value to solve addition problems in our recent C.L.I.C session.

We have used our brain break to share positive stories. In catching out “chatter ball” we shared news of recent proposals, new puppies, club achievements and Christmas plans.

We really enjoy our pre-concert visit to wish us luck!

Giant Jigsaw! We have been using the our knowledge of the structure and features of explanation texts. We worked collaboratively to identify key features, order pieces of writing and find missing information. We also picked up some great facts about global warming on the way!

Honey gave us a fanatic retell of the busy events of her recent taekwondo competition. A welcomed opportunity to celebrate recent success outside of school. Da iawn Honey!

A busy mix up day! We took the opportunity to share our recently developed skills with our fellow PS3 learners while looking at databases.

Christmas Creatures! After gather data from a range of Christmas creatures we created data bases to compare the information while looking for trends among elves and reindeers! Some creatures live over 101 years!

After the absence of a few friends, Cwtch 4 worked collaboratively during their break and lunch times to ensure everyone understood the recent learning.

We had a great mix up Friday! Both Cwtch 4 and 5 were busy boxing up our learning into picture prompts to help us with our writing.

We have launched Time Table Rock Stars this week! We’re looking forward to playing at home and improving our scores!

As a class, we’re reading Malamander by Thomas Taylor to help build our vocabulary. Here are some recent and upcoming words.

Tobi created a beautiful Leaf Wreath at home for our classroom. He did this using dried leaves and an old coat hanger! Sustainable and creative! Diolch Tobi!

Show Racism the Red Card!

During Show Racism the Red Card day we created a shared Google Doc full of all the information we have learnt about a range of people throughout Black History Month. We have been enjoying the Little People, Big Dreams books at the end of each day and have learnt a lot about some very inspiring people throughout Black History.

Outdoors we’ve been using proportion to help us build portraits inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

We’ve been looking at where our features actually sit on our faces to help us draw portraits in proportion the our face.

Our bank of vocabulary has been developing through the use of an online thesaurus. We developed a class scale for each emotion to help us better understand these words.

We’ve been using mental addition to help us with our problem solving, while developing resilience and perseverance when facing a challenge!

Olivia has been highlighted by her classmates this week for doing a great job of improving vocabulary to create atmosphere.

Fanatic examples of peer assessment were highlighted this week. Impressive teamwork and critical thinking skills!

I.C.E Wales Harvest Workshop

This week we’ve moved on to our second genre of writing this term. To start us off we been looking at facts and opinions.

We have now finished our first writing genre and have began publishing our final draft of our instructions.

Wow! Tobi started gardening club in Year 3 and helped us plant a range of fruit and vegetables. At our school fair he took home a corn plant to care for himself during the summer holidays. This week he was able to enjoy the hard work he put in with some home grown corn for snack! Da iawn Tobi!

To help us learn about the importance of instructions, we have been learning to play a range of new games.

Top
