Information from Bishop of Llandaff High School about their transition day on 7th July:

I have received a few queries regarding the transition day (Friday 7th July), so I thought it may be helpful to share some timings with you.

We normally encourage Year 6 students to arrive at reception for 9am, but no later than 9.15am. Parents to be ready to pick up from 2.45pm. Students to wear their primary school uniforms and trainers. There is no onsite parking so parents are asked not to drive on to school site (they can walk into reception with their children).

This will all be explained to parents at the new parents evening on the Thursday 6th of July (invites to this will be in the transition packs, that will be sent to all new parents in June).

Tregoyd House - The Adventure Begins :)

This afternoon, we drew the first quadrant of a coordinate grid on the playground and used our selves to coordinates. We then created shapes on the grid by plotting each vertices and noticed patterns as we did so.

Today we used Micro-bits to sense the temperature and light level outside. We learned to use condition and comparison logic in our code and made sure the output matched our input.

Spring 2 Visual Curriculum Map

This half term we are learning about post-war Wales. We will be researching, discussing and answering the question "Why do people hold different views about the modernisation of an area?" Below is a copy of our visual curriculum map which outlines what we will be learning and how each Area of Learning links to our Big Question.

Art so far...(more to come)

WW2 Propaganda Posters and Explanations

We have been learning about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. We discussed his teachings and compared them with the context of our local community. After this, we created Ebooks to share his teachings with others within the school.

Urban Landscapes - Our Locality

There's no better way to start a topic about urban landscapes than going to see some for ourselves . St Mellons provides some of the best views in Cardiff and we couldn't resist a walk to see them. During the 1930s and 1940s, St Mellons was very rural and had very little attention from the German bombers. It would have been, however, a perfect place to see the terrifying view of the bombs landing on the city and coastal industries that were dotted along the coast line.

In Cwtch Chwech this week, we have been writing WW2 poetry using emotive and figurative language techinques. We learnt about The Blackout, rationing and evacuation in our humanities sessions which enabled us to harvest powerful vocabulary for our poetry. We practised writing expanded noun phrases, precise verb and adverb combinations and extended similes before producing our final poems. After this, we read them aloud to each other and gave positive constructive feedback.

This week in Cwtch Chwech, we have been reading, learning and performing poetry. We used our Reading Vipers to infer meaning from and explain our thoughts about the poetry before creating video performances. We thought carefully about how we wanted to frame our shots and which camera techniques we wanted to use to emphasise certain parts of the poems; to help we created storyboards before filming.

Dreams and Goals: Steps to Success

In Cwtch Chwech today, we chose specific learning goals and outlined the steps to success necessary to achieve them. We then looked at the personal strengths and attributes necessary to achieve our goals. We learned about Native American culture and how they make totem poles to commemorate and represent their ancestry, community, history, people, and events. We discussed which animals we could see in the totems and which attributes/strengths they might represent. After this, we designed our own 'Totems to Succes' which helped us to create a "To Be List" as well as a "To Do List" for achieving our goals.

Why were some areas of Britain subjected to more bombing than others?

The Language of Debate - in Welsh! Some great oracy work in Cwtch 6 today. Gwaith Gwych!

PS3 had a mixing day to introduce our new topic all about World War 2. In Miss Gwilym’s classroom, we learnt about evacuation and how it impacted children’s lives. In Miss Ramsay’s classroom, we learnt about rationing and how much food people were allowed to have during the war. In Mr McCarthy’s classroom, we made the classroom a blackout, to experience how people would have felt during the war.
